Info for Fauré, Koechlin & Schmitt: Œuvres pour violoncelle et piano

Of course, none of these three composers is unknown. We cannot even quite say that they are little known. But they are not necessarily known for the best reasons. It is thus that the music of Gabriel Fauré that is most often played is perhaps not the most remarkable, nor the most personal that he wrote.

Though the reputation of Charles Koechlin as orchestrator or music theorist needs no making, he is still rarely thought of as a composer. As for Florent Schmitt, his name is more often linked to political polemics than concert programmes. This recording has the great merit of giving full credit to these three great creators.
