Info for The Northern Experience

The Northern Experience is the second release on AMP Music & Records by the 24-year-old award winning Serbian saxophonist Rastko Obradovic.

During his Jazz Performance studies at The Norwegian Academy of Music in Oslo, Rastko got to know and understand Norwegian culture through academic and professional engagement, friendship and everyday life. “One of the most important things I’ve learned in Norway is the significance of spending time in nature and to what extent it has a positive effect on all aspects of life.”

Being born and raised in Serbia, Rastko is familiar with Balkan and Oriental music tradition and improvisation styles. In Norway he studied jazz performance, but also explored Norwegian folk and Indian music. On his musical journey, Rastko has developed an authentic sound and unique improvisation style. This, apart from being receptive, moderate, yet aware of his qualities, led him to share the stage with many international artists around Europe.

Rastko Obradovic Quartet features Martin Gjerde on piano, Alexander Hoholm on double bass and Raymond Lavik on drums. Special guest, Arkady Shilkloper on French horn, brings his musical voice, experience, personality and own understanding of both Norwegian and Slavic culture to this project.

Rastko Obradović
is 23-year-old world class musician. His hallmark, a unique sound and dazzling improvisation, led him to collaboration with experienced musicians from Serbia and abroad. Rastko was strongly influenced by Jan Garbarek, Michael Brecker, Sonny Rollins and Bojana Z with whom he released a duo EP Wabi Sabi for Norwegian record label AMP Music and Records earlier this fall.

If you are hanging around jazz in Belgrade, you’ve heard that voice. He seams to be essential component of any major jazz gig in Belgrade. If you went to see Bojan Zulfikarpašić and Vasil Hadžimanov at Kolarac Concert Hall end of last year, he was there as a guest soloist. He also performed in each of these pianists’ projects, both live and as guest soloist on the album. Until recently Rastko performed regularly with Schime Trio in Serbia and abroad. As you are reading this he is rehearsing with Euroradio Jazz Orchestra before performing 2 concerts in Latvia’s main concert halls in Jūrmala and Cēsis.

Well, it’s about time to see and listen Rastko Obradović as an author and a leader.

Multikultivator proudly presents Rastko Obradović Quartet, founded in Oslo, Norway in 2017 on a tour in Serbia (Kragujevac, Beograd i Novi Sad) from November 16th to 20th 2018.

Special flavor to the Belgrade concert will be added by Russian multi-instrumentalist and composer – the amazing Arkady Shilkloper (1956) known as one of the best jazz performers on French horn and alphorn in the world. Arkady performed in Belgrade on two occasions: with Moscow Art Trio in 2001 and “Mountain Tale” project (Moscow Art Trio with Angelite and Huun Huur Tu) at Sava center in 2004.

The concert tour in Serbia is a world premiere of Rastko’s original music that will also be featured on a first studio album of Rastko Obradović Quartet. The album will be recorded during band’s stay in Serbia at „Future Nature Sound“ studio in Pančevo.
