Info for Le grand Michel [A Journey With Michel Legrand]
They have chosen a stripped-down and intimate style, far removed from the often-used orchestral arrangements, as revealed in the opening track, "The Summer Knows" (Un été 42). This choice particularly highlights the quality of the melodies of the French composer, who became American at the end of his life. But rest assured, the twin sisters have retained their pep in a particularly luminous two-piano version. David Linx sublimely performs "I Will Wait for You" ("Je ne pour être jamais vivre sans toi" from The Umbrellas of Cherbourg). The ghost of Claude Nougaro hovers, taking the form of Jean Guidoni in "Le Cinéma," while "Le Rouge et le Noir" makes a short instrumental duet. The Hollywood era occupies a prominent place, with a Summer of '42, The Windmills of the Thomas Crown Affair sung by Cristina Renzetti, the film The Happy Ending, vocally illustrated with great finesse by Camille Bertault...
This is a way to rediscover these beautiful songs, to rediscover them, and to realize that they have become much more than standards if we can interpret them differently without betraying them. A very fine album.
