Info for À LA FRANÇAISE
A declaration of love for French chanson: Hiba Tawaji and Ibrahim Maalouf pay a vibrant tribute to French chanson with the release of their first joint album: À LA FRANÇAISE.
A journey to the heart of French chanson, reimagined through their unique artistic worlds and their bond as a couple.
Featuring the Republican Guard Orchestra and a jazz quintet, À LA FRANÇAISE is an elegant and refined tribute, at the crossroads of classical music, jazz and Eastern influences.
The album perfectly and sincerely captures the duo’s familial and artistic bond, driven by a shared emotion and the desire to share an essential part of their story with the audience.
With this album, the two artists unveil a project that is both intimate and masterful, conceived as a dialogue between two musical legacies and two complementary artistic sensibilities.
The repertoire brings together great classics of French chanson — Que je t’aime, La Bohème, Fais-moi une place —, treated with the respect due to the original works, whilst offering a reinterpretation that is both grandiose and cinematic.
Hiba Tawaji’s magnificent voice, powerful yet imbued with rare sensitivity, elevates these songs through a profound and luminous performance, revealing their full emotional depth with infinite delicacy, whilst Ibrahim Maalouf’s arrangements bring out further nuances, blending orchestral grandeur, jazz-inspired freedom and Eastern resonances.
Listening to this album, I think that, indeed, one realises that a song like ‘La Bohème’ — a French song, composed, lived and performed all over the world by a Frenchman of Armenian origin, which speaks of the bohemian lifestyle, that is to say, of that vibrant, nomadic side of life, of those travellers —, is, in fact, what France is all about, that is the Francophonie [and] that is what we want to defend too; it’s about saying ‘we are so much more than just our origins’.
