Info for The Inverted Jenny Flies Again
Cory Shane, ex-Dead Meadow and The Rondelles, release a long-lost solo album, "The Inverted Jenny Flies Again".
Shane came up through the DC heavy-psych and stoner-rock scene; in 1998 he co-founded Hollow Mountain with guitarist Jason Simon and Malcolm McDuffie, a band whose sound sat at odds with the post-hardcore consensus then dominant in the city, and which fed directly into Simon‘s next project, Dead Meadow. After Hollow Mountain, Shane played guitar and toured with The Rondelles before relocating to Santa Fe, where he began writing and recording the songs that would eventually form the bulk of the album.
Back in DC in 2003, Shane joined Dead Meadow for their fourth album Feathers (Matador Records); his guitar work runs through the record’s dreamlike atmosphere, and his songwriting appears on the track “Stacy’s Song.” He left the band in spring 2005, later returning for a series of reunion shows focused on Feathers material in the 2010s.
From 2005, Shane worked through the Santa Fe recordings with producer and multi-instrumentalist Eli Elkin (also known as Memory Man), who added bass and drum parts during the latter half of the decade. The finished album also features contributions from psychedelic hip-hop artist Edan (Beauty & The Beat, Echo Party) and Jason Simon. The press release draws a comparison to Skip Spence’s Oar (1969); the album’s territory is described as country-dusted rock and mellow psychedelia, recorded at a remove from the sounds prevalent in that period.

Cory Shane
formed DC heavy-psych/stoner-rock band Hollow Mountain with Jason Simon and Malcolm McDuffie in 1998. The band’s sound went against the grain of the DC post-hardcore scene of the time and forged a path locally for Simon’s own band Dead Meadow. After Hollow Mountain, Cory played guitar and toured with The Rondelles before relocating to Santa Fe, New Mexico, where he began writing and recording the songs that would form the bulk of the Inverted Jenny album on a Tascam cassette 4-track.
Returning to DC in 2003, Cory joined Dead Meadow for the classic fourth album Feathers on Matador Records. Cory’s guitar work accentuates the dreamlike feel of the album, and a taste of his songwriting can be heard on the atmospheric track "Stacy's Song." Cory left Dead Meadow in Spring 2005, later reuniting with the band for a handful of reunion shows to perform Feathers material in the 2010s.
In 2005 Shane began going through the Santa Fe recordings with producer/musician Eli Elkin and assembling a solo record, with Elkin adding bass and drum parts during the latter half of the 2000s. The resulting album The Inverted Jenny Flies Again will be released on April 10 on limited edition vinyl via Jason Simon’s Tekeli-li Records, with digital distribution through Ghost Tower Records. Cory Shane opens for Dead Meadow on their U.S. tour starting in April 2026.
