Info for Emmanuel Chabrier: España, Suite Pastorale, Danse slave, Bourrée fantasque, Pièces pittoresques

Emmanuel Chabrier (1841-1894) lived in artistic Montmartre, his friends including poets (Verlaine), painters (Renoir, Monet and Manet) and writers (Zola and Daudet). He was an excellent pianist like Schubert, equally comfortable playing in cabaret piano bars as in the rehearsal rooms at the Opéra-Comique. He fell under the spell of Wagner’s Tristan und Isolde when he first heard it in Munich in 1879. This recording reflects his consummate knowledge and light-heartedness.
