Tom Chiu
is a noted champion of new music. The pioneering violinist has performed over 150 premieres worldwide of influential composers such as Virko Baley, Dean Drummond, David First, Alvin Lucier, Somei Satoh and many others. He has also worked closely with several jazz visionaries including David Chesky, Oliver Lake, Henry Threadgill and Ornette Coleman. His discography includes recordings for the Innova, Koch, Mode, Sombient, Tzadik labels and his premier recording of Mr. Chesky's Violin Concerto No. 1, which was chosen as "Record of the Month" by Stereophile Magazine. In a cross-discipline context, Chiu has created new mixed-media works with choreographers Eun-Me Ahn and Shen Wei, audio-video artists Phill Niblock and Elise Kermani, sculptor Ernesto Neto, conceptual balloonist Judy Dunaway, and director Lee Breuer from the avant-garde theater troupe Mabou Mines. His original works have been presented at noted experimental venues such as Roulette, STEIM Amsterdam, The Noguchi Museum, Experimental Intermedia and Museum of the Moving Image. His extensive film credits further showcase his creative versatility: as composer, arranger, voice-over artist and actor (The Man with One Red Shoe, with Tom Hanks). Chiu is also founder and first violinist of the FLUX Quartet, a groundbreaking new-music group, "legendary for its furiously committed, untiring performances." (Alex Ross, The New Yorker) Chiu holds degrees in Chemistry and Music from Yale, along with a DMA from The Juilliard School.
Dave Eggar
is a Grammy-nominated artist, having performed throughout the world as a solo classical cellist, improviser and composer. The New York Times raves, "Mr. Eggar's boundless imagination is revealed in still limitless possibilities "Winner of SONY records Elevated Standards Award in Classical Music, Eggar has performed and recorded with artists such as Michael Brecker, Ornette Coleman, Evanescence, Kathleen Battle, Andrea Bocelli, Dawn Upshaw, Esperanza Spalding and Josh Groban. As a founding member of FLUX Quartet, he has premiered numerous compositions by composers such as Frank Zappa, Conlon Nancarrow, Charles Ives, John Cage, John Patitucci and many others. Solo appearances include Carnegie Hall, Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, the Barbican Center London and the Hollywood Bowl. Eggar was nominated for a Grammy for his record Kingston Morning, fusing classical and reggae. Dave holds a BA in Composition and Neuroscience from Harvard University and a DMA from The Juilliard School.
David Chesky
