Info for Roses - Lost Control

The album is about embracing life as it is, with all its contradictions, beauty, and chaos. The songs were recorded live, filled with real human energy and emotion. While optimistic in tone, it’s not all sunshine and rainbows; it’s honest, grounded, and at times raw. Each track carries a subtle tension without ever feeling heavy, inviting listeners to pause and appreciate the world’s beauty. ‘Tripping over time’ feels like one big celebration of joy, laced with a bittersweet, happy-sad energy. The band focuses on feeling rather than explaining: music that resonates on an emotional, not intellectual, level. The result is an album that feels both comforting and uplifting, with its eyes firmly set on the future.

The record also explores a more experimental, ‘trippy’ side of boy & bear. The songs take the listeners on a sonic journey you’ll want to relive over and over again, a form of escapism that mirrors life’s cyclical nature. the lyrics are poetic and open to interpretation, allowing everyone to find their own story within them. “Recording in our own studio for the first time gave us the freedom to slow down and really experiment, without the pressure of expensive studio time. It blurred the line between writing and recording, giving us a sense of freedom and an experimental spirit where we could chase ideas as they happened.”

Frontman Dave Hosking adds: “it’s about the subtle lessons of life. often you don’t realise you’ve gone through something until you’ve truly experienced it. you keep learning, stumbling forward, and embracing the chaos with a smile. it’s optimistic, nostalgic and playful, just like life itself.”

While the band have enjoyed a ten-year career of outstanding accolades and cherished hits, they’ve also continued their reputation as one of Australia’s best live acts, performing to upwards of 65,000 Australian fans every year, in addition to regular sold-out international tours.Sydney-bred Boy & Bear first rose to prominence in 2009, uploading their track “The Storm” to triple j Unearthed. Two years later, their debut album Moonfire was released, which would go on to reach double platinum ARIA status, peaked at #2 on the ARIA chart, winning five ARIA awards including Album of the Year, and three spots in the triple j Hottest 100. In 2013, their sophomore album Harlequin Dream debuted at ARIA’s #1 spot and is certified platinum. Their third album, Limit of Love was be their second consecutive #1 ARIA chart debut, and see them tour the world multiple times, become Splendour in the Grass festival favourites, perform on Conan O’Brien, and sell out two Sydney Opera House visits.

Boy & Bear

Boy & Bear
Formed in 2009 as a solo vehicle for Sydney-based singer/songwriter Dave Hosking, Boy & Bear specializes in evocative and heartfelt indie folk-rock in the vein of contemporaries like Fleet Foxes, Bombay Bicycle Club, and Mumford & Sons. Rounded out by guitarist Killian Gavin, bass player Dave Symes, and brothers Tim (drums) and Jon Hart (mandolin, keyboards), the Aussie quintet inked a record deal with Island Records on the strength of its independently released first single, "Mexican Mavis." The group's debut EP, With Emperor Antarctica, dropped in early 2010, followed in 2011 by Boy & Bear's debut long-player, Moonfire, which went platinum in their native Australia. The band's sophomore outing, 2013's Harlequin Dream, would go gold. Their next album was captured, as much as possible, live in the studio direct to tape with producer Ethan Johns (Paul McCartney, the Vaccines), and represented a shift into synth-aided guitar pop. Limit of Love arrived in October 2015.
