Info for Namestra

This first opus is an invitation to an exceptional meeting, both in human and artistic terms, of the brass ensemble NAMESTRA and that of the great French trombone player, Michel Becquet. Considered as being one of the best representatives of the French school of wind instruments in the world, he has given brilliant concerts and won numerous international competitions open to his instrument. He also teaches in Lyon and Lausanne. With the finesse of his playing, his sensitivity and unique sonority the ensemble tells the story of l’Aventure des Frères Montgolfier, composed for them by director Rémy Abraham, before going on into Chat Pitre by Richard Galliano.

Through the orchestral qualities, which are a peculiarity of their training, they revisit some of the most beautiful symphonic works: extracts from Grieg’s Holberg Suite and Tchaikovsky’s 4th Symphony, lyrical airs with the sublime Nessum Dorma from Turandot by Puccini, and Carmen’s Toreador by Bizet, but also music composed more specifically for wind instruments like Sparke’s Overture or Appermont’s Fanfare for a Friend.

The ensemble would also like to take the audience for a ride on Pottock’s back, a sublime pony all the way to the Celtic regions of Monesuch to celebrate a traditional Anglo-Saxon Christmas with Mary’s Boy Child.

this is NAncy - MEtz - STRAsbourg Formed through the friendship of its members – all soloists from the orchestras of eastern France – and through their passion, and common idea of how brass instruments should be played, the Namestra Ensemble has not only united three ‘favorite enemy’ towns, but also performs and aims to diversify music for brass ensembles. Under the baton and artistic leadership of Rémy Abraham, performing their original compositions and arrangements, the Namestra Ensemble invites you to share an original musical journey, dotted with a variety of works through which you will discover the majesty, subtlety and musicality of brass.
