Info for Tanguillo

On the borderline between written and improvised music, Tanguillo is a free and creative evocation of the world of Tango, born of a unique collaboration between two outstanding musicians and of a sparring bout between two highly individual sonorities. A new language takes shape, inventive and provocative.

Vincent Peirani and François Salque, coming from two very different environments and musical traditions, have gradually developed languages and pathways of their own, involving written and improvised music as well as experimentations, from one concert to another. Their first disc, Est, was devoted to the traditional musics of central Europe. This time their guiding thread is the music of South America, and more especially the universe of Astor Piazzolla.

Their two sonorities, as magnificent as they are different, intertwine and interlace amid the melodic and rhythmic undulations of the pieces, sometimes adapted, sometimes created by Vincent Peirani, Jocelyn Mienniel, and Tomás Gubitsch.

François Salque
is recognised as one of the most stunning cellists of his generation. His profound musical thinking and phenomenal technique have earned him many prestigious awards: François is a prize-winner at such international competitions as Lausanne (Unanimous First Prize), Geneva (2nd Prize), ARD Munich, Tchaikovsky in Moscow... He was each time given the highest distinctions ever awarded to a French cellist in the histories of these competitions.

His outstanding talent was equally recognised in the United-States where he won a Master of Music degree at Yale University as well as no less than six First Prizes in international competitions.

In France, he won the First Prize of the "Hommage to Paul Tortelier and Maurice Gendron" International Competition and the Pierre Fournier Prize.

François has already performed as a soloist and in chamber music in over fifty countries with some of the world’s most renowned artists (Jean-Claude Pennetier, Alexandre Tharaud, Michel Portal, Paul Meyer, Emmanuel Pahud, Itamar Golan, Renaud Capuçon, Barry Douglas, Gil Shaham...)

He has played as a soloist with such prestigious orchestras as the Münchner Rundfunk Orchestra, the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, the Moscow chamber orchestra, the Saint-Petersburg Camerata, the Baltica Chamber Orchestra, the Monte Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra, the Berner Philharmonic... as well as many French orchestras.

His recordings for BMG RCA, Arion or Lyrinx with pianists Eric Le Sage and Alexandre Tharaud were highly acclaimed and received many awards.

François Salque was for five years a member of the Ysaye String Quartet with which he played over 400 concerts and recorded seven CDs.

François is currently teaching at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris.

Vincent Peirani
started his career with classical music, and although the phrase is hackneyed, he was something of a child protégé. At the age of 12 he enrolled at the Conservatoire National de Région in clarinet in his hometown of Nice. Between 1994 and 1998 he won the most important international accordion competitions and as well the first prize at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique in Paris. He stayed in the French capital, got to know people like Daniel Humair at the National Conservatory and discovered a new spectrum of musical opportunities including contemporary classical music, chanson and jazz.

Tomas Gubitsch
The story, the geography and the music made of Tomás Gubitsch the guitar hero of a nuevo tango which takes its roots in Argentina and has been developed in France, its land of welcome for more than thirty years.

Born in 1957 in Buenos Aires, Tomás Gubitsch is known very early for his guitarist’s talent in “Invisible”, the most famous Argentine rock band. Stemming from a generation fed by the music of Beatles, Hendrix or Zappa, his tango adopts a “disrespectful” attitude towards his elder (Troilo, Pugliese, Salgán or Piazzolla) and claims proudly the rock as an inspiration, ” the music which symbolized the rejection of the dictatorships ” in Argentina.

Upon his arrival in France, the 19-year-old kid has no evil to become integrated into the French and European scenes, especially as he navigates easily between the styles. In the beam(shelf) jazz, Tomás Gubitsch collaborates with Stéphane Grapelli, Michel Portal or Steve Lacy.

has no evil to become integrated into the French and European scene(stage), especially as he navigates easily between the styles. In the beam of the Jazz, Tomás Gubitsch collaborates with Stéphane Grapelli, Michel Portal or Glenn Ferris.

His South American origins also drive him to investigate the way of the World Music with Nana Vasconcelos, Mino Cinelu or David Dorantes.

Finally his taste of the experiment allows him to flirt with the contemporary music of Luc Ferrari or Jean Schwarz.

These few fifty recordings with prestigious artists do not have to lead to forget his own career which begins in 1980 with ” Resistiendo has Tormenta “. Composer and arranger, Tomás Gubitsch works with philharmonic orchestras, from Rouen to Liège, by way of Japan and Sweden. In 1997, he realizes a very personal work with ” Ceaselessly (suite) “, recorded with the orchestra of Basse-Normandie and what he qualifies as ” improbable opera-ballet “.

“Songs of innocence” in 1999 is applauded too. Having dedicated himself to the composition for a few years, he returns on the center stage in 2007 with the album ” 5 “.

In 40 years of career, he played on all the continents, thus not amazing that his last solo album, “Itaca” and the show which he pulled off, is inspired by the epic of Odyssey. Tireless traveler in sounds, Tomás Gubitsch is an inimitable artist, ready to offer a vibrating tango, a free music!
