Info for L'Île (deluxe)

L'Île is influenced by personal stories from four islands: Île d'Orléans, Montreal, the Magdalen Islands, and Cuba. Among the musicians accompanying Simon on stage that evening were Dayron Luis from Cuba and Gabriel Arseneau from the Magdalen Islands, adding to the authenticity of the mix.

The songs on the album are designed for an intimate setting, so the lightness and gentleness of "La maison tremble," "Le grand défi," and "Les larmes et le sang" resonated well with the audience. For those unfamiliar with the album, his humorous version of "Hotel California," titled "Hôtel Ste-Anne-des-Monts," brought a smile to their faces. He even played "Jusqu’à Noël," his Christmas song from the album, despite everyone eagerly awaiting summer.

Paul Simon (Kodachrome) and "El Cuarto de Tula" by Buena Vista Social Club (the latter being the first song he learned in Spanish, something he mentioned in our last interview). A special mention also goes to Neil Young's album "Live at Massy Hall," which influenced his more acoustic approach. The show ended with "Simple comme bonjour," the sunny and melancholic instrumental that closes the album.

Simon Kearney
is a songwriter, producer, accompanist, even cook - who has been rolling his hump for over a decade. From the folk-rock beginnings of an EP of the same name (2013) and the seminal album La vie en mauve (2015), he then rolled out his brand of 'pop n' roll' for the next two, Maison ouverte (2019) and América (2022). 2024 marks a return to his roots with the release of L'Île, a fourth album of intimate, impressionistic folk on which he explores his insularity.

This album contains no booklet.
