Info for Elysium

He came from the Land Of The Midnight Sun, sparkled on the jazz-rock stage as an Elegant Gypsy, came up trumps in the Casino with all the right chords and melodies, and his Splendido Hotel was the number one address for fusion fans around the globe.

„Elysium“ means ’the place of perfect happiness’ and I chose this title because it reflects my actual state of mind“, says guitar virtuoso Al Di Meola about his new album (published in May) and the following tour. A state of mind that has been shaped by a 40 year long career of highest musical standards. The stages of which are commonly known: Beginning with Chick Corea’s Return to Forever, groundbreaking solo success with „Elegant Gypsy“, the musical firestorm of the guitar trio with John MCLaughlin and Paco De Lucia, who broke all records with „Friday Night in San Francisco“ and the Tango variations of the late great Astor Piazolla who Di Meola names as his biggest influence in the last twenty years.

„My music combines the past with the present, it combines technique with deep feelings and emotions. That’s what I am proud of“, say Di Meola. With „Elysium & More“, the Italian American from New Jersey travels through his body of work: with his own classics, songs of Lennon & McCartney, Piazolla’s Tango and brand new compositions.
