Paul Kleber
can be heard and seen around the world as a sideman in many renowned bands, such as Jazzanova Live, the Moka Efti Orchestra and the projects of Sebastian Studnitzky and Uri Gincel, to name a few. Tonight he appears as a bandleader and has gathered a few of his favorite musicians. With them he presents pieces from mostly his own repertoire, which he arranged together with the great pianist and producer Uri Gincel. Groove and electronic influences are in the field of tension with acoustic music and quiet as well as atmospheric moments, always characterized by the joy of playing, spontaneity and inspiration of the acting the musicians
Paul Kleber was born in Berlin/Germany and started playing cello and drums as a young kid before he chose his main instrument, the double bass. He studied classical double bass at the Hochschule für Musik „Hanns Eisler“ Berlin and jazz too at the Universität der Künste Berlin. Kleber played and recorded with Jazzanova Live, Sebastian Studnitzky, Moka Efti Orchestra British band Fink, Micatone, JazzIndeed and Lisa Bassenge. As a sideman he accompanied many artists i.e. Dee Dee Bridgewater, Mark Murphy, Emiliana Torrini, Nina Hagen, David Friedman and Nightmares On Wax.
Uri Gincel
is one of the most sought after and respected jazz pianists in Berlin. Uri's style can be described as strongly rooted in tradition, but with the sensibility and understanding bringing jazz into the modern age. His playing is dynamic, lyrical and above all full of energy and power! Born in Tel-Aviv, Gincel came to Berlin in 2009 and quickly became an influential part of the jazz scene. Uri toured the world with many projects, including "Uri Gincel Trio" and "Bonaparte", and studied with some notable musicians such as Arnie Lawrence and Walter Blending Jr.
Sebastian Studnitzky
has always been a traveller between the realms of jazz, classical and electronic music. In his inimitable music not a single note is superfluous. It is detailed, minimalistic and transparent, yet it displays an emotional depth which is uniquely personal. Too edgy for pop, too emotional for jazz, too opulent for electronica, and with a rhythmic groove far removed from avant-garde, he has created something that is refreshingly new.
Tobias Backhaus
is without doubt one of the most in-demand German jazz drummers. He studied under the guidance of master drummers John Riley, Joey Baron, Keith Copeland and John Hollenbeck and holds a Bachelor’s degree in jazz performance from the University of the Arts in Berlin. In the German capital, he quickly made a name for himself as a versatile and exciting musical accompanist and has been a vital part of the contemporary European jazz scene for well over the past decade. Tobias regularly works with internationally renowned jazz artists such as Till Brönner, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Tony Lakatos, Torsten de Winkel, Carlos Bica, Gwilym Simcock, Jiggs Whigham, Rick Margitza, Peter Weniger, Frank Chastenier and Ack van Rooyen as well as large ensembles such as the Dresden Symphonic Orchestra, NDR Big Band, Berlin Jazz Orchestra, European Movement Jazz Orchestra and many others.
