Info for Works for Violin & Piano

To mark the 85th birthday of the renowned Munich composer Wilfried Hiller, master of universal sound art, the album "VERNISSAGE – Works for Violin, Piano, North Indian Singing Bowls, Wine Glasses and Tap Shoes" will be released from March 2026: This unconventional instrumentation creates a synthesis of tradition and experimentation that takes the listener into new dimensions of sound.

Several world premiere recordings can also be heard, some inspired by the expressive sculptures of the artist Antje Tesche-Mentzen.

Hiller, known for his intellectual cross-connections and references to the visual arts, combines music with visual inspiration here – as in "Vernissage" or "Agnes-Umspielungen". The compositions invite you to an auditory exhibition, full of allusions and emotional depth.

Interpreted by violinist Franziska Strohmayr and pianist Laura Pitz, who make the nuanced timbres shine, they also present solo works with virtuoso musicality and technique, interweaving harmonic worlds and percussive elements. This album is a novelty in contemporary music: innovative, interdisciplinary and astonishing – let yourself be inspired by Hiller's cosmos.

Wilfried Hiller, born in Weißenhorn/Germany in 1941, after studying piano with Wilhelm Heckmann at the Augsburg Conservatory, he fi rst worked as an organist and ballet répétiteur. During this activity he met his fi rst wife, the dance pedagogue Isabella Schwarz. From 1963 Hiller studied at the University of Music Munich with Günter Bialas (composition) and Hanns Hölzl (drums).

From 1967 he played as a drummer in various orchestras and founded the concert series “musik unserer Zeit.” The following years were infl uenced by contact with Carl Orff, with whom he worked closely as his student until his death.

Hiller’s works for music theatre were decisively infl uenced by his collaboration with actresses Elisabet Woska and Michael Ende.

From 1971 to 2006, Hiller was music editor at the broadcast corp. Bayerischer Rundfunk. In 1989 he became a member of the Bavarian Academy of Fine Arts, and in 1993 a composition teacher at the Richard Strauss Conservatory in Munich, and was director of the International OrganWeek Nuremberg from 2009 to 2012. Hiller lives in Munich and on the small Greek island of Phournoi.

Franziska Strohmayr, violin
Laura Pitz, piano

Franziska Strohmayr performs as a soloist and chamber musician at international festivals such as the Salzburg Biennale, Musikfest ION Nuremberg, the Carl Orff Festival, the BachZeit Festival Mondsee and “Toujours Mozart” of the German Mozart Society. For her artistic work she has been awarded the Cultural Fund Prize of the City of Salzburg and was named “Newcomer of the Year” by the PRO SALZBURG Foundation.

Born in Augsburg, she graduated with distinction from the University Mozarteum Salzburg, where she studied with Martin Mumelter, and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London under Jacqueline Ross. A close artistic collaboration links her to composer Wilfried Hiller, who has dedicated several works to her, published by Schott Music.

With innovative touring concepts such as the “Kulturbiathlon – With Violin and Bicycle,” in which she covers all tour distances by bike, and interdisciplinary projects combining music with acrobatics, light art, and performance, she expands the traditional concert format, taking on both artistic direction and organizational responsibilities. She also gives project management workshops for musicians and teaches at the University Mozarteum Salzburg.

Her recordings are released on the TYXart label and her own label, Leni Records, including the complete works for solo violin and violin & piano by Wilfried Hiller, as well as solo works by H.I.F. Biber, G.P. Telemann, and J.S. Bach. Franziska Strohmayr plays a violin by Antonio Gragnani (Livorno, 1759) and holds a PhD in musicology – a combination of artistic passion and academic depth that shapes her work.
