Info for All About Eve
Beyond their mastery of their instruments and their passion for music, Sophie Heinrich (violin) and Maria Radutu (piano) share another trait: they are storytellers. In their respective solo programs—Radutu’s "PianoBox" and Heinrich’s "Alma’s Music Salon"—they have forged unique paths to present both familiar and lesser-known music to audiences, weaving in narrative elements in a highly personal way. Maria invites listeners into a diverse array of musical worlds, using her own voice to offer a fresh, contemporary perspective on the pieces she presents. Sophie transports her audience to bygone eras and the inner emotional landscapes of the composers, drawing on excerpts from diaries or letters to reveal them as human beings—making their works feel more accessible and tangible.
In their joint program, "All About Eve," these two dynamic artists combine the best of both their approaches. The program provides a stage for women and their musical contributions, spanning various historical periods. It centers on their stories, experiences, and motivations—and, above all, their music. This includes the work of the Boulanger sisters—both highly acclaimed for their compositions—who shared a profound and touching bond that transcended death; the vibrant, unshakeable power of music by the African American composer Florence Price, who, in her own time, was barred from even entering concert halls due to the color of her skin; the spirited, harmonically complex sonata by the Croatian-Hungarian composer Dora Pejačević—a highly educated, modern woman of the 1920s; and the imaginative, mystical music of contemporary composer Lera Auerbach.
What all these women share is a spirit of vitality, creative diversity, exceptional quality, and courage. And so, these exceptional artists now pluck "Eve’s ripe apples," using music and text to entice us to taste the fruit from a tree that women in the past—bravely defying all opposition—planted; a tree that now stands in such lush, magnificent splendor that it can no longer be overlooked!
"Brilliant, educational, and entertaining!" (Journal for Culture and Society, Michael Löbl, Bregenz Festival 2025)

Sophie Heinrich
