Info for Riot Jazz Makes People Happy

Riot Jazz Brass Band return with their 4th studio album, dedicated to what they do best - making people happy!

"Riot Jazz to make the people dance, Riot Jazz to make the people happy"

This fresh selection of original tunes was composed especially for the band's UK tour in April 2022, and showcases the wide and eclectic range of styles the band can effortlessly flow between. From the Mariachi influenced sounds of '¿Qué?' to the pumping 5-to-the-floor house grooves in 'Sort Me Out'. There's a quick stop in New Orleans in the infectious 'Mardi Gras' and some truly dirty drum and bass sounds in 'Mokito' - there truly is something in this album for everyone.

The artwork is a fresh collaboration with the artist Lorna Robertson - the painted front cover is based on a classic Riot Jazz t-shirt design (in turn inspired by the artwork of Bob and Roberta Smith), fused with the stripey colourfulness of her 'Painting for 18 Musicians'.

Since setting sail in late-noughties Manchester, Riot Jazz Brass Band has been the bare-breasted, fist-pumping galleon figure of the Riot Jazz armada. Stirring up a hot-pot of peace-lovin' aggro-jazz and re-interpreted dancefloor bangers, these brass-wielding super-heroes of fine-tuning the good times have filled ear-holes, dance floors and festival fields across countries and continents!

Riot Jazz Brass Band
hail from the grimy protoplasm of Manchester’s prolific creative scene. Since 2008, they have been spreading unconditional love and irresistible energy across the nation and continent. The 9-strong troupe is comprised of three trumpets, three trombones, drums, sousaphone, and fronted by the prodigious MC Chunky. The sheer enjoyment and passion which emanates from these musicians as they party on stage is as infectious as it is inspiring. Be prepared for a unique, genre-bending exhibition of exhilarating music fit for any occasion, guaranteed to have even the most stoic audience member on their feet and dancing like no-one is watching. Their original material knows no bounds; drawing from jazz, hip-hop, drum’n’bass, Balkan, trap, grime, dubstep, Latin, classical, they write and play whatever their collectively large heart desires. And the same goes for covers, which range from Britney to Bon Jovi, Shaggy to Blink 182. This astonishing versatility and insatiable hunger to explore all corners of the musical spectrum has led to collaborations with a wide variety of artists, such as London Elektricity, Swindle, Plan B, and Skinnyman. Highlights from their career so far include Glastonbury West Holts, WOMAD, Jazz Sous Les Pommiers, Love Supreme, and Canary Wharf Jazz Festival.
