On this new double album, the Munich Radio Orchestra under the direction of its chief conductor Ivan Repušić Verdi's complete ballet music. Following the conventions of the Paris Opéra, Giuseppe Verdi also had to create ballet music for the French prestigious or first performances of his stage works. Between 1847 and 1894, a total of seven partly detailed so-called divertissements were created. With catchy melodies, sweeping, point-accented rhythms, sound painting effects and plastic gestures, but above all an incredibly colourful instrumentation, he succeeded in giving contemporary ballet music new impulses.

While in productions of Verdi's operas, the ballet music has been usually painted for a long time - with the exception of those of "Aida" - they have been made music again and again in recent times and related to the dramaturgy of the respective work. Verdi's ballet music to "Les vêpres siciliennes" (Les quatre saisons – The Four Seasons) and to "Jérusalem" are the most detailed he has created. In the dance sequence composed for "Le trouvère", which uses musical material from the gypsy scenes, he established a close musical dramaturgical connection with the stage plot. For "Macbeth" he composed an extensive ballet music illustrating the hekate scenes of Shakespeare's drama. In the third act of "Don Carlos", a ballet de la Reine entitled "La Pérégrina" is held in the gardens of Queen Elizabeth to celebrate the coronation anniversary of Spanish King Philip on the following day. For the premiere of "Aida" in Cairo, there were no obligations regarding the design of dance inserts, which is why Verdi should have come closest to his ideal of a dramaturgical connection of dances with the opera act. The shortest of his ballet music with oriental dances was created for "Otello". These beautiful, well-crafted pieces of music should no longer be withheld from the audience.
