The women composers heard here were never hidden: they were present, active, and often celebrated in their own time, their music performed, published, and enjoyed alongside that of their male contemporaries. Some of them moved in the same artistic circles as Mozart, Haydn, Liszt, Grieg, and others; their works meet the same highest artistic standards. In Plain Sight does not set out to argue or proclaim. Rather, it offers a listening experience created by genuine fascination with this repertoire – some of it recorded commercially for the first time – and trusts the music to speak with its own authority.

Joanna Kacperek
is highly celebrated for being a multi-faceted pianist with a wide ranging repertoire, both as a soloist and a collaborative pianist. She has performed in major concert halls in her native Poland as well as in the United Kingdom, Ireland, France, Italy, Spain, Germany, Norway, the Ukraine, Canada and Japan. Concerto appearances include performances with such orchestras as the Symphony Orchestra of the National Philharmonic in Warsaw and the Lviv Virtuosos Chamber Orchestra. Joanna’s debut solo album ‘Variations’ was released in September 2024 with Rubicon Classics label. The CD received enthusiastic reviews (‘Pianist’, ‘International Piano’, ArtMuse London) and has been featured on the Polish National Radio (Program Drugi Polskiego Radia).

In February 2025 Joanna had the honour of performing Chopin for HRH King Charles during his visit to the The Polish Social and Cultural Association and she gifted him the copy of her album.

Prizewinner of numerous competitions, including the special prize at the Edvard Grieg Piano Competition in Bergen and the Titanic Memoriam Pianist Prize at the Lies Askonas Competition. A finalist at the Royal Over-Seas League Competition in London, she also won the II International Beethoven Chamber Music Competition. Recipient of the Zetland Foundation Scholarship in London, the C. Bechstein Foundation Scholarship (Royal College of Music, 2021), and an Erasmus Scholarship (Berlin University of the Arts, with Prof. Markus Groh). She also won first prizes at the F. Chopin competition in Szafarnia, the B. Smetana Competition in Pilsen, and the .M Magin Competition in Paris.

In September 2024 Joanna debuted at Wigmore Hall, where she won the ‘Jean Meikle Prize’ for best duo with Clara Barbier Serrano at the Wigmore Hall/Bollinger International Song Competition. Their Liedduo (former ‘Oxford Song Young Artists’ (2022-2024) has also been awarded the second prize at the International Hugo Wolf Competition 2024 in Stuttgart and the Lied Innovation prize of the Rhonefestival fűr Liedkunst in Switzerland. In April 2025, their duo won the second prize, audience prize and ‘La Belle Saison’ prize at the International Chamber Music Competition in Lyon. Clara and Joanna regularly perform across Europe and have given recitals at major festivals including the Oxford International Song Festival, LIFE Victoria Barcelona Festival, Schumannfest Bonn, SWR Festspiele, Internationaal Lied Festival Zeist, Festival de la Gente, and Festival de Lussan.

Joanna graduated with honours from the Royal College of Music in London, where she studied with Prof. Norma Fisher. She also holds a Masters degree from the Chopin University of Music in Warsaw, where she studied with Prof. Ewa Pobłocka and Prof. Maja Nosowska.

The pianist has played in masterclasses with such artists as: Dina Yoffe, Arie Vardi, Anna Malikova, Boris Berman, Nikolai Demidenko, Bernd Goetzke, Hinrich Alpers, Fumiko Eguchi, Philippe Giusano, Katarzyna Popowa – Zydroń, Andrzej Jasiński, Krzysztof Jabłoński, Wojciech Świtała.
