Info for Goyescas

I feel Catalan through and through, but in my music I want to express what I feel, what I admire and what attracts me, be it Andalusian or Chinese. Enrique Granados

I hope that this album will allow a deeper understanding of the Goyescas, drawing not only the most common images of Spanish folklore such as the sevillanas or the bullfighters, but also a more complete picture of a diverse country. It was the inspiration for an artist like Goya who was at once deeply local and universal. It is this fascinating mixture of tradition and modernity, of Spain and Europe, that Granados liked and loved in his illustrious predecessor. (Enrique Granados)

Emili Brugalla, piano

Emili Brugalla
was originally self-taught, but later took a diploma at the Conservatorio Superior de Música of the Barcelona Liceo and decided to embark on a career in music. Work with Eulàlia Solé and meetings with musicians such as Bruno Canino and Maria Curcio directed her towards the piano. In 1982 she was awarded the first prize of the Competition for Young Musicians by the Catalonia Juventudes Musicales. Two years later an award from this organization allowed her to study with Maria Curcio, first at the International Campus of Torroella de Montgrí and later in London. As a soloist and in chamber music she has appeared in leading Spanish concert halls and at festivals, including those of Granada, Peralada, Torroella de Montgrí, Santander, El Vendrell and San Sebastián. Appearances abroad have included engagements throughout Europe, in South and Central America, and in the Middle East. She has collaborated with chamber ensembles such as Barcelona 216, the group of soloists from the Barcelona and Catalonia National Symphony Orchestra, and is a founder member of the Kandinsky Trio. In 1997 she appeared as soloist in Manuel Blancafort's Concert ibèric and her recordings include releases of Catalan music of the twentieth century.
