Info for Am Grund
True to the motto “more is more”, this band is a big one. The 17-piece ensemble led by saxophonist Gregor Schor performs compositions that have been specially tailored to the band and its musicians. The band’s size allows for a great deal of creative freedom. It is a vast toolbox containing everything from a small precision screwdriver to a sledgehammer. The name, the Greatest Common Multiple, stems from the idea that, through the diverse musicians, the content of the compositions is continually reinterpreted and embellished, thereby amplifying the music to its greatest possible potential. Thus, the work and the performers merge to form the Greatest Common Multiple.
There’s room for everything here: from smooth and delicate to rough and wild. Vroni Frisch’s music invites you on an atmospheric journey where the songs always take centre stage, yet are free to develop in any direction. They sometimes venture into classical and cinematic-sounding textures and are an essence of diverse influences and styles with a penchant for grand gestures, whilst the tension between composed and improvised elements forms a major part of the live experience.

Gregor Schor
was born in Leverkusen in 1993, where he took his first musical steps at the local municipal music school. After beginning clarinet lessons in 2000, he also started saxophone lessons in 2006, as jazz music had fascinated him since his early youth. In 2012, he began preparatory studies at the Jazzhausschule Köln, where his teachers included jazz bassist André Nendza.
In 2018, Gregor Schor completed his Bachelor's degree in Jazz and Popular Music at the Mainz University of Music, studying with Steffen Weber and Denis Gäbel. Since 2022, he has been studying for a Master's degree in Big Band Music with a focus on composition at the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts. During this time, he has had the opportunity to collaborate with artists such as Maria Schneider, Guillermo Klein, and Darcy James Argue. Furthermore, he gained experience with the HR Big Band during various recording sessions.
In 2018, he founded the professional big band "Projekt Orion" with Vroni Frisch and Maximilian Shaikh-Yousef, which has performed with various guest stars such as Will Vinson, Julian Argüelles, and Frederik Köster.
Since 2019, Gregor Schor has served as the second chairman of the Tonkult e.V. association, which is dedicated to promoting the independent jazz scene in Mainz. During this time, several projects have been realized. For example, the "Tonkult meets…" format, a project in which local artists meet international stars like Savannah Harris or Aaron Parks and perform a concert with them after a short working session. In addition, an ongoing jam session series, "Tonkult jams…", was also launched.
In addition, Gregor Schor regularly works as an arranger on productions for the Silent Explosion Orchestra. He also performs as a freelance saxophonist in various ensembles, including the Marburg Jazz Orchestra*, the Silent Explosion Orchestra, and the Dark Age Orchestra.
Since 2021, he has held a teaching position at Justus Liebig University in Giessen, specializing in saxophone.
