Info for Recollection
Pianist Jui-Sheng Li takes us in his debut solo album on an intimate journey through some of his very own musical souvenirs. The diverse program combines works from a variety of different cultural backgrounds and seeks to present rarely performed pieces alongside well-known classics. Immerse yourself in the artist's personal story in which he transcends barriers of culture, language and national identity through the transformative power of music.
Recollection opens with Robert Schumann's Allegro in B minor, Op. 8 followed by Alexander Scriabin's 24 Préludes, Op. 11. The second part features Karol Rathaus' transcription of two pieces from his ballet "Der letzte Pierrot". At the very end Jui-Sheng Li presents Two Old Postcards from Formosa by Taiwanese composer Ming-Hsiu Yen.
The New York Concert Review praised Jui-Sheng Li as a “musician of integrity and depth [...] One looks forward to hearing more from this young artist.” Jui-Sheng’s artistic individuality is shaped by his studies in Taiwan, Canada, and the United States as well as his appearances at music festivals across the globe. In recent years, Jui-Sheng has been creatively programming concerts combining traditional repertoire with lesser-performed yet classical compositions. Jui-Sheng has performed at such prestigious venues as Carnegie Hall in New York and Salle des Colonnes–Château de Fontainebleau in France. His research projects, The Masked Music and The Musical Portrayals of Pierrot, have earned him Artist-in-Residence roles at internationally-renowned institutes such as the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity (Canada) and La Cité internationale des arts (France).
The Album was recorded in 2021 at Konzerthaus Blaibach, Germany.

Jui-Sheng’s artistic individuality is shaped by his studies in Canada, the United States, and Taiwan as well as his appearances at music festivals worldwide. He believes that music provides him with a means of expression transcending language and culture, and allows him to communicate with audiences across the globe. In recent years, Jui-Sheng has been creatively programming concerts combining traditional repertoire with lesser-performed yet classical compositions. As part of this process, he conveys how composers’ social and cultural contexts shaped their musical output. This allows listeners to appreciate the contextual background to the music.
Equally passionate about the worlds of solo and collaborative projects, Jui-Sheng has performed at such notable venues as Carnegie Hall in the United States, Salle des Colonnes – Château de Fontainebleau in France, Konzerthaus Blaibach in Germany, as well as at festivals and institutions including: the Asia Pacific Saxophone Academy, the Bowdoin International Music Festival, the Brevard Music Center, the Castleman Quartet Program, the Eastern Music Festival, the International Music Workshop and Festival, the International Summer Academy of the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, the Lunenburg Academy of Music Performance, the Musical Chairs Chamber Music Festival, the New York University Summer Piano Intensive, and the Rebecca Penneys Piano Festival. His performances have also been broadcast on the Rukus Avenue Radio in Los Angeles, California, USA, and the National Education Radio of Taiwan.
In addition, Jui-Sheng is grateful for receiving award recognitions from the Carles & Sophia International Piano Competition (2022), the King’s Peak International Music Competition (2020), the International Piano Island Competition (2018), the Vancouver International Music Competition (2017), the New York Rondo Young Artist Competition (2017), the Wyoming Symphony Orchestra Young Artist Competition (2015), the Music Teachers National Association Young Artist Competition (2014), among others.
Jui-Sheng’s research projects, The Masked Music and The Musical Portrayals of Pierrot, have earned him artist-in-residence roles at internationally-renowned institutes such as the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity (Canada) and La Cité internationale des arts (France). The Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Hsinchu County Government, the National Culture and Arts Foundation, the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada, the Tsung Cho-Chang Education Foundation, and the Jewish Community Foundation of Montréal generously supported these projects.
Coming from a humble family, Jui-Sheng profoundly understands the challenges encountered by young artists on the journey to becoming professionals. Alongside concert appearances, he often collaborates with organizations to put on benefit concerts or raise funds for the next generation of musicians. As a teacher, he has taught at Northwestern Polytechnic, McGill University, and the University of Wyoming.
Jui-Sheng holds a Doctorate from the McGill University Schulich School of Music under the tutelage of Kyoko Hashimoto and Roe-Min Kok. He also holds degrees from the University of Wyoming and the National Taiwan Normal University, where he studied with Chi-Chen Wu, Yi-Chung Cheng and I-An Chen.
Currently based in Montréal, Québec, Canada, in his spare time, Jui-Sheng enjoys catching up with friends in the city, bicycling along the Lachine canal, taking walks or jogging in the beautiful Mont-Royal, savouring French desserts like le mille-feuille or le éclair as well as picking up more French.
