Info for Christmas Songs

David Foster and Katharine McPhee are once again keen to share their Christmas joy with the world. The duo have recorded seven new Christmas classics to add to last year's successful Christmas release "Christmas Songs", including a performance with the famous Tabernacle Choir. "Christmas Songs" was David and Kat's first ever Christmas release. It was also the first time the two had recorded songs together in 17 years. They had so much fun recording that they decided to go back into the studio and record more songs for the Christmas season. The seven classics are: "Santa Baby", "Its Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas", "We Three Kings", "Snow", "Amazing Grace" featuring Tabernacle Choir", "Carol of the Bells" and "Away in the Manger".

The first single from the Christmas album will be a stunning version of "Amazing Grace" with the famous Tabernacle Choir, recorded and filmed in Temple Square. David says of "Amazing Grace" and working with the Tabernacle Choir, "I've had the opportunity to work with the Tabernacle Choir on a few occasions. To say they are spectacular is an understatement. We put all the power we could muster together with this great choir. "Amazing Grace" is one of those songs that evokes so much emotion. From the first note of the bagpipes to the last note, this song seems to mean something different to everyone, from sad to happy and everything in between. We hope we have given this song the honour it deserves."

"We had a lot of fun recording the songs last year. This year we really wanted to dig deep and add 7 more songs to make an even bigger album and throw everything we had at our disposal into the mix, from the rock guitar on "WE THREE KINGS" to the Tabernacle Choir on "AMAZING GRACE" to the simplicity of Kat's spectacular song "ITS BEGINNING TO LOOK A LOT LIKE CHRISTMAS", which is just vocals and piano. We also had a lot of fun reworking an old song of mine called "CAROL OF THE BELLS" and adding vocals. We put a lot of heart and soul into it and we hope it shows. Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year for so many people. We want to celebrate that joy with all of you." (David Foster)

"We haven’t recorded together in 17 years so we thought it might be time to do it again! Kat has the most beautiful voice and she doesn’t know how to deliver less than a perfect vocal every time! When you make Christmas music, you literally get a free pass to do whatever you like-the freedom for me as a producer was so much fun – no pressure.” (David Foster)

Katharine McPhee
was born in Los Angeles in 1984 and is an American singer, songwriter and actress. She came into the public eye in 2005 after competing on American Idol, however McPhee has always been in the performing world. Her father, Daniel McPhee used to be a television producer while her mother and sister have been American Idol vocal coaches.

In 2005, McPhee competed in the fifth series of American Idol, performing a rendition of “God Bless the Child” for her audition. Receiving praise from judges and votes from the public, she made it to the final of the competition but was eventually beaten by Taylor Hicks.

In 2006, McPhee signed to a record company and released her first single “Somewhere Over the Rainbow/My Destiny” which she performed on American Idol. The single went on to become the second highest selling single of the year. After this, McPhee began to appear on television series such as Ugly Betty, Community and CSI: NY at the same time as releasing her first album, named “Katharine McPhee”.

Her television break came in 2012, when she was cast as Karen Cartwright in the NBC programme Smash. Based on the New York theatrical community, Smash told the story of creating “Bombshell”, a brand new musical about Marilyn Monroe, where Karen Cartwright was unexpectedly cast as the lead. With an original soundtrack, McPhee gained a new legion of fans performing alongside Broadway stars including Megan Hilty, Christian Borle and Anjelica Huston.

McPhee made her Broadway debut in 2018 as Jenna Hunterson in Waitress. She first played the role from 10th April 2018 to 17th June 2018, before reprising her performance from 5th July 2018 to 19th August 2018.

Katharine McPhee will originate the role of Jenna in the West End production of Waitress, opening at the Adelphi Theatre and play her final performance on 15th June.
