It’s brave of Julia Fischer to tackle the Mount Everest of music for solo violin at the age of 21. The young German is up against some stiff competition, but she acquits herself well. The great Chaconne in Partita No.2 suits her serious approach; it starts quite gently, the tension increasing towards the end. She can be skittish on occasion, but the Gavotte en Rondeau of Partita No.3 could surely do with more wit.
