Info for Violent Nature

Since forming in 2013 in Metro Detroit, Michigan, metalcore/post-hardcore band I Prevail has achieved considerable critical and commercial success. Their first album, 2016's "Lifelines," achieved gold status in both the US and Canada, while 2019's "TRAUMA" repeated the feat in Canada. The latter was nominated for Best Rock Album at that year's Grammys, and the single "Bow Down" was also a contender for Best Metal Performance. With 2022's "TRUE POWER," the band continued to forge their own musical path, refusing to conform to genre expectations.

Now, with their fourth album, "Violent Nature," the band takes things a step further. The album was recorded in two stages at Blackbird Studios in Nashville and self-produced under the direction of bassist and keyboardist Jon Eberhard. It's also the first material in which vocalist Eric Vanlerberghe, the band's only singer, performs both clean and non-clean vocals. It's a heavy-hitting affair. The album's first single, the title track, is possibly the most brutal, extreme, and ferocious song the band has ever released. But not everything is so brutal and intense. While the single "Rain" is anything but gentle, the song's powerful, anthemic chorus feels like a lullaby in comparison, even though the lyrics contain hints of the same rage and anguish. Nonetheless, it illustrates the two very different sides of this album and the opposing forces that weave through it. Welcome, then, to the new era of I Prevail. This is not only the band's best version yet, but also one brimming with purpose, passion, and energy.

"Violent Nature" is more than just an album—it's a confession, a mirror, and a liberation all at once. With these songs, I Prevail lay bare their wounds without ever giving in to resignation. Instead, they transform pain into strength, chaos into clarity, and darkness into a form of beauty. Every note carries the weight of true emotion, every line sounds like a call to face one's own nature. This work marks not only a new high point in the band's work, but also a milestone for all those seeking healing in music. (Peter Kupfer, EMP Editorial Team)

I Prevail
This oft-cited genre label, "post-hardcore," is a true musical grab bag. It can take you from the most delicate breathy vocals, delivered over ambient soundscapes and soft acoustic guitars, directly to breathtaking outbursts of rage—sometimes within just one song. But that's exactly what fans of bands like I Prevail from Rochester Hills, Michigan, appreciate.

Since 2013, Brian Burkheiser (vocals), Eric Vanlerberghe (vocals), Steve Menoian (guitar), and Gabe Helguera (drums) have been operating in this musical field—and have achieved a status that extends far beyond the genre. They have been nominated twice for a Grammy, have gold and platinum records on their shelves, and continue to surprise both old and new fans with their music. In May, I Prevail will be back live at four German concerts in Berlin, Düsseldorf, Munich, and Hamburg.

I Prevail recently released a single that perfectly showcases their range in a single song. "Deep End (Stripped)" features the "Stripped" version, which is so dazzling, poppy, and catchy that it could easily be placed between an Ed Sheeran and Giant Rooks song on the radio. The original version, found on their 2022 album "True Power," erupts in melodic fury in the chorus. And the live recording, recorded in London in 2023, seems even more majestic and powerful than the studio version, whipped up by the audible commitment of the audience.

I Prevail not only manage to produce this marriage of melody and aggression in the studio with a gun license, they are also an incredibly well-rehearsed, powerful live band. Songs like the hardcore outburst "Body Bag," the power ballad "Hurricane," the grim, screamo-infused "Self-Destruction," the 2016 hit "Scars" (which opens the album "Lifelines"), and the long-time fan favorite "Blank Space" from 2014, which emphasizes the hardcore roots, all demand to be heard and played live. That's exactly what I Prevail will be doing on their upcoming tour in Berlin, Düsseldorf, Munich, and Hamburg. Perhaps they'll even surprise us with new material—there are rumors of a follow-up to "True Power."
