Info for Vide Grenier
Tim Keegan remains one of Britain’s great lost songwriting treasures, yet should be up there with Lloyd Cole, Edwyn Collins or the Divine Comedy’s Neil Hannon as one of our most cherished performers.
Since leaving university in the early 1990’s, Keegan has been performing his acoustic driven pop songs, fronting critically acclaimed bands such as Homer and Departure Lounge, but also spending much of the mid-90’s guesting with British eccentric troubadour Robyn Hitchcock (check out Jonathan Demme’s Storefront Hitchcock movie for proof).
Although Vide Grenier (French for ‘clearing out the attic’ apparently) is only Keegan’s third album this century, prolific he isn’t, he doesn’t waste a single track. With a newly assembled band, The Personals, made up of close friends from the Worthing music scene, he delivers eleven optimistically acoustic driven tracks, some dating back to the 1990’s. Kicking off with, the Donovan sounding, Self Esteem, Vide Grenier offers a perfect mix of lively energy and subtle heartfelt observations of life, drawing the listener into his warming world of jangly-pop meets folk, with perhaps just a touch of country thrown in for good measure.
Recent single (if a digital solo track counts as such) ‘Intensive Care Unit‘ is reminiscent of Stephen Duffy or John Bramwell at their best, exploring the themes of adapting to parenthood with a sublime melody which will work its way into your mind, and you won’t want it to leave! Second single ‘Pomme De Terre‘ offers a humourful bi-lingual celebration of what Keegan describes as an “ode to the humble spud. Rarely round, but never square” and whilst not as appealing as ‘Intensive Care Unit‘ it does have a certain charm and wouldn’t go amiss as a Divine Comedy track. ‘Thin‘ is perhaps the track that, if released in the mid-90’s (when it was written), would have given Edwyn Collins a run for his money offering some country-tinged slide guitar under a simple but effective melody, whilst exploring body imagery – ahead of his time!
“One of the best songwriters we’ve got”. (Paul Heaton)
“Casebook studies in flawless songwriting. This is great pop music, unadorned by spin, resolutely free of pretence” (NME)
“A voice somewhere between Lou Reed and Edwyn Collins - made to sing of love and truth" (les Inrockuptibles)
“Combines an understanding of the songwriter’s art and a love of cracking tunes. An album to return to again and again” (Music Week)

Tim Keegan
is an internationally acclaimed singer and songwriter, who has spent a quarter of a century wandering the scenic back roads of the western world’s underground pop scene. Unmistakably English, but better known in France and the US, Keegan is a master craftsman of the thoughtful pop song.
He cites his key influences as the holy trinity of Bob Dylan, Lou Reed and Leonard Cohen, but as much missed The Word magazine noted, “(Keegan) radiates a chipper Englishness that informs even the most doleful of these bitter-sweet pop songs with a quiet optimism.” Like most of us, he is an unashamed fan of the music he grew up loving: Elvis, Johnny Cash and Buddy Holly, REM and the Jazz Butcher, Nick Drake and Jonathan Richman.
In the UK Tim is perhaps best known as frontman of the acclaimed 4-piece, Departure Lounge, folktronic pioneers and darlings of the fledgling Bella Union label in the early 2000's ("casebook studies in flawless songwriting" according to the NME, “some of the most wonderful, eclectic, optimistic pop music being created at the moment", said the Sunday Times, who made their debut Out Of Here Album of the Week). DL’s Kid Loco-produced follow-up, Too Late to Die Young, was hailed as "a top to bottom masterwork" by influential US music magazine, Magnet, and became BBC 6 Music's first ever Album of the Week.
Tim Keegan has been a regular accompanist of Robyn Hitchcock (appearing on several albums and in Jonathan Demme's Storefront Hitchcock film) and has worked with numerous others over the past 20-odd years including Kid Loco, Josh Rouse, Tahiti 80, Saint Etienne and The Blue Aeroplanes, while living variously in the UK, Nashville and Paris.
He now lives with his wife and children in Worthing, a seaside town in West Sussex on England’s south coast, where for the past ten years he hosted a monthly live residency at a seafront bar, The Beach House.
Keegan has released three full length solo albums since his 2007 debut ‘Foreign Domestic’. His latest album ‘Vide Grenier’ arrives on streaming services October 2026.
