Info for Anton Bruckner: Symphony No. 8 (2017 Remastered Version)
Anton Bruckner, born in Ansfelden in 1824, played virtually no role in the musical life of his time. His music was probably simply too far removed from the music-making and listening habits of his time. Basically, however, the composer Bruckner knew very well what he wanted and what he did not want. He composed the Eighth Symphony, his third in the key of C minor, from 1884/85, completing a first revision of the work in 1887. But this version was not accepted for performance by Hermann Levi, to whom he sent the score. At first depressed, then more and more inspired by the task before him, Bruckner created a much more complex, structurally and instrumentally richer new version in the three years that followed. Anton Bruckner's Eighth Symphony is the last with a completed final movement and at the same time the non plus ultra of his oeuvre.
