A Polish composer endowed with sensitive and bold artistic views, Karol Szymanowski (1882-1937) is perhaps one of the most authentic heirs to the musical and pianistic realm of Frédéric Chopin (1810-1849).

The two composers share an irresistible attraction to memory, a fondness for an intangible yet inextinguishable voice of the soul.

This album offers a journey through the various works and stages of their respective creative lives, the Mazurkas in particular, which obviously bring the two men closer to each other from an emotional perspective.

Gaspard Thomas
Born in 1997, pianist Gaspard Thomas won Third Prize and two special awards at the Szymanowski Competition in Katowice, Poland. He has been an artist-in-residence at the Singer-Polignac Foundation since 2021 and is an Adami Classical Talent for 2024.

He regularly performs as a soloist (with the Laureates’ Orchestra of the Conservatory under Lucie LEGUAY, the Appassionato Orchestra under Mathieu HERZOG, and the Polish Radio Orchestra under José-Maria FLORÊNCIO).

Gaspard THOMAS is invited to several festivals in France: the Chopin Festival in Paris, the Chopin Festival of Nohant, the Deauville Festival, Lisztomanias, and Les Pianissimes... He has been heard at the Auditorium of Radio France, La Seine Musicale, the Bagatelle Orangery, and the Steinway & Sons showroom. He also performs recitals in the United States in New York City and Washington D.C.

A highly appreciated chamber musician, he forms a duo with violinist-composer Élise BERTRAND (Sommets Musicaux de Gstaad in Switzerland, Colmar Festival, BNF in Paris). Their duo collaborates as a trio with cellist Jérémy GARBARG (Palazzetto Bru Zane in Venice).

Gaspard THOMAS trained at the CNSMDP with Claire DÉSERT and has worked with artists such as Sir András SCHIFF, Bruno RIGUTTO, and Bernard d’ASCOLI. His artistic journey has been enriched by encounters with personalities such as Thierry ESCAICH, Anne LE BOZEC, and Jean-Frédéric NEUBURGER.

Also open to creation, he composed "Poème" for an orchestra of 96 pianists, a piece premiered at the Philharmonie de Paris in 2019.
