This production features Anne-Sophie Bertrand and her world premier recording of “Suite pour Harpe” by Jean Françaix.

The artist owes Mme Claude Françaix, the composer’s daughter, a huge debt of gratitude for the authenticity as to the artistic expression of this work’s interpretation. A pianist and renowned interpreter of her father’s music, she allowed for Anne-Sophie Bertrand to get to know the multi-faceted composer. A musical tapestry as akin as possible to the expressive world of Jean Françaix was thus woven.

DYNAMIC RANGE: DR 17

DR (or Dynamic Range) is a term for the degree of dynamic variation within a piece of music or album. Low values (e.g. DR3) reflect a high abuse of compression. Tracks that are DR3 have a range of three decibels between the average and peak program signal. A natural recording, with a low amount of dynamic processing, would have a much higher DR value (e.g. DR12+). The DR system is intended to avoid black and white judgment of dynamic quality. While DR7 is low for rock music or very low for Jazz, it is quite acceptable for electronic club music which has nowadays often values below DR4. All values above DR12 have generally a high dynamic quality..

Anne-Sophie Bertrand

The Franco-American harpist Anne-Sophie Bertrand was born in Paris. Her studies with renowned harpists in London, Lyon and Brussels were crowned with the award of numerous prizes and excellent grades.
This remarkable career was rounded off by winning international competitions and prizes in Cardiff (1994), Brussels (1995) and London (1998, 1999 and 2005). In the year 2007, the Royal Academy of Music granted her the title of “Associate” in honour of her outstanding achievements as a musician.

She has been performing as a soloist with the Symphony Orchestra of Hessischer Rundfunk in Frankfurt am Main since September 2000.

She gave guest performances in London (Wigmore Hall and Purcell Room), Brussels (Palais des Beaux Arts), Amsterdam (Konzertgebow), Rotterdam (De Doelen), Paris (Musée d’Orsay), Caracas, Jerusalem and toured well-established festivals such as the Festivals Aix en Provence, Festival des Flandres and the Weilburger Schloss Festival to name a few. Her solo recordings were broadcast by several major broadcasting corporations such as the BBC, France-Musiques, arte, NDR, HR and WDR, amongst others.

She is in great demand as a chamber musician and is thus regularly invited to perform at the renowned “Prussia Cove’s Open Chamber Music” in Cornwall. Moreover, she is a member of the Prometheus Ensemble, the leading Belgian chamber orchestra with whom she has premiered numerous works.

It is worth noting that she is committed to contemporary music. She is a laureate of the International Orpheus and Gaudeamus Competitions for the interpretation of contemporary music and gives guest performances at influential festivals for contemporary music such as the Ars Musica Festival in Brussels. Anne-Sophie Bertrand has worked with many famous composers of our times including Heinz Holliger, Matthias Pintscher, Jörg Widmann, Mark-Anthony Turnage, Pierre Boulez and Mauricio Kagel.
