Info for Heise, Weyse and Lange-Müller: Love Songs

Here is an irresistible collection of love songs by three masters of Danish Romanticism: Weyse, Heise and Lange-Müller. Their songs with piano have made an indelible mark on a genre of Danish music and express a world of yearning and joy.

The young lyric tenor Mathias Hedegaard has an outstanding feel for the style and offers masterly renderings of these beautiful Danish songs.

Mathias Hedegaard, tenor
Tove Lonskov, piano

Mathias Hedegaard
has established his name in just a few years as a sought-after and award-winning bright lyrical tenor. His CD recordings with Danish songs and arias have won international recognition and his interpretation of the Evangelist Partiet in Bach's Passions has led him to engagements with several of Northern Europe's best baroque orchestras and conductors. With his strong stage presence, as an opera singer he has especially made himself known in several Danish premieres and as a Liedsanger he has sung at, among others, Danmarks Radio and at festivals both at home and abroad.

In the 23/24 season, Mathias made his debut in the role of Janek/MAKROPOLOS at Malmö Opera and was a soloist in the same season with the Helsingborg Symphony Orchestra. For several seasons, Mathias has been a regular guest at the Funen Opera, he has, among other things, appeared in Sovedrikken, Die Weisse Rose and Den Glade Enke.

Mathias Hedegaard is educated at Det Kgl. Danish Music Conservatory and at the Opera Academy with Kirsten Buhl Møller as teacher. Already during his student years, he debuted in 2006 at Det Kgl Teater as Gastone in LA TRAVIATA and in the same year had great success in the double role of Verner/Daniel in the world premiere of Svend Hvidfeldt Nielsen's EDENS GAVE. In 2007 he sang Acis in Händel's ACIS AND GALATHEA at Innsbrucker Alte Musikwochen in Stephen Lawless' staging and with Lars Ulrik Mortensen as conductor, a role he later also sang at the Oude Muziek Festival Utrecht.

He has had roles in, among others The Royal Theatre, Den Jyske Opera, Gothenburg Opera, Tiroler Landestheater Innsbruck and at the Wermlandsoperan in a repertoire that spans Monteverdi, Bach, Händel and Mozart to newer composers such as Stravinsky and Britten, as well as several contemporary Danish composers such as Niels Marthinsen and Andy Pape.

Mathias Hedegaard is a much sought-after concert singer and has been a soloist with the DR Symphony Orchestra, Concerto Copenhagen, Helsingborg Symphony Orchestra, Leipziger Kammerorchester, DR Entertainment Orchestra and De Nederlandse Bachvereining as well as all the regional orchestras. He has worked with conductors such as Adam Fischer, Lars Ulrik Mortensen, Michael Schønwandt, Giancarlo Andretta, Andrew Parrott and Nicholas Kraemer.

As a Liedsinger, he has sung in concert halls and music associations across most of the country, i.a. in Tivoli's Concert Hall and DR Koncerthuset, as well as in Austria and Great Britain, most often with Tove Lønskov as accompanist.

On CD, he has recorded SERENADES AND ROMANCES with the DR Entertainment Orchestra and Adam Fischer, LOVE SONGS with Tove Lønskov and Carl Nielsen Cantaters with the Århus Symphony Orchestra and Bo Holten.

Mathias has received a number of awards over time, including the Aksel Schiøtz Prize 2006, the Musikanmelderringen's Artist Prize 2007, the Gladsaxe Music Prize 2006, the Leonie Sonningfonden's Scholarship 2006 and the Prins Henrik's Fonds Legacy 2009.
