“The Bird In My Heart,” his fourth solo piano album, marks a return to his roots. Today, Tristan Mélia continues his musical journey alone at the piano. With “The Bird In My Heart,” he explores a free, intimate, and unadulterated form at the intersection of jazz, classical music, and improvisation. The influence of Sergei Rachmaninoff and Bill Evans resonates subtly in the harmonic richness and emotional intensity, without ever constraining a deeply personal musical language. The album, consisting primarily of original compositions, is rooted in a direct connection to the moment where composition and improvisation merge. The standards—“Nature Boy” (Eden Ahbez), “Our Love Is Here to Stay” (George Gershwin), and “Misty” (Erroll Garner)—appear as sudden outbursts, natural impulses, inscribed in the musical flow. As if predestined by fate, Tristan decided to record this album alone and in a deliberately intimate manner.
