Info for Loop Tales

With Loop Tales, Camille El Bacha and Naghib Shanbehzadeh bring Western classical piano into dialogue with Persian and Middle Eastern percussion. The piano evokes echoes of Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Ravel and Steve Reich, while percussion adds a vibrant rhythmic dimension. Each piece unfolds as a looping narrative built on repetition and evolving cycles that gradually transform. Piano and percussion create an immersive counterpoint where musical traditions intersect, shaping a sonic space in which cultures meet and reinvent themselves.

Rooted in a shared desire to explore repetition as a living musical material, the album invites listeners into an intimate sound world shaped by subtle variation, resonance and rhythmic energy.

Concert pianist, composer and improviser Camille El Bacha has developed a personal musical language bridging classical heritage and contemporary creativity. Alongside him, percussionist Naghib Shanbehzadeh draws on the rhythmic traditions of southern Iran, forming a deeply collaborative musical journey.

Camille El Bacha
Concert pianist, improviser and composer Camille El Bacha began piano studies at the age of eight. Trained in turn by Edda Erlendsdóttir, Romano Pallottini, Olivier Gardon and Billy Eidi, he developed his own musical language in Jean-François Zygel’s improvisation class at the Paris conservatoire. Graduating with a piano diploma and a master’s degree in improvisation, he was also awarded prizes for harmony and analysis after courses at the conservatoire with Fabien Waksmann and Yves Balmer. Camille El Bacha has appeared at the Chopin Festival at the Parc de Bagatelle in Paris, the Le Monde Festival at the Théâtre des Bouffes du Nord, ‘la Semaine du Son’ at Flagey, Brussels, and the Piano Passion Festival at the Opéra de Saint-Étienne, among many others. He is also highly in demand as a cinema pianist, notably at the Fondation Jérôme Seydoux-Pathé, and at the Cinémathèque Française. His experience as a film music composer has also led to collaborations with Arte, France Télévision, and more recently with contemporary French cinema productions. Fascinated by the idea of a journey through different styles, he also places his classical training at the service of the French song repertoire as well as world music and electronic music, notably in his new project ‘Leone Jadis’.

Saeid Shanbehzadeh
Skillful and young percussionist and drummer, Naghib started playing music at the very young age of three, playing music in Boushehr and Kish beside his father Saeid. He mastered many traditional and Southern percussions. Dammam, Doholgap, Pipe, Kesser, Timpo, from his own region and Zarb from Iranian traditional music. He has been a permanent member of Ensemble Shanbezadeh since age of 10. He has shared stage with many great musicians of different genres, such Manu Kodjia, Billy Cobham and Trilok Gurtu. He is also a very fine drummer and played in Jazz and Gospel gigs. He plays with a high level of energy, creativity, dynamics and a strong connection with other musicians at any given performance. He studies occidental percussions at Conservatoire of Cretiel in Paris.
