Info for REFUGIO

Nano Stern releases his new album REFUGIO, where Latin American roots meet contemporary jazz. He is joined by the award-winning Manhattan based piano trio: Yago Vazquez (Galicia, Spain), Pablo Menares and Rodrigo Recabarren (Santiago, Chile).

REFUGIO contains songs of love, heartbreak and deep introspection that blend the rhythms of Nano’s native Chile with groove, improvisation and a high level of musicianship.

Praised by folk legend Joan Baez as ‘the best young Chilean songwriter of his generation’, and ‘the face and voice of a whole new chapter of the Nueva Cancion Chilena (La Nacion, Argentina), NANO STERN stands out as one of the most important Chilean musicians of his time, with a career spanning twenty years along with six award winning and critically acclaimed albums.

Nano Stern
is a multi-instrumentalist, composer and songwriter with strong roots in the traditional songbook of South America. His music approaches folk, rock, jazz, trova and experimental sounds from a contemporary perspective.

The chilean artist is currently presenting his latest album “Aún creo en la belleza” (“I still believe in beauty”), which is his 9th studio record. This album comes after a long period of sonic and poetic experimentation which has allowed the expansion of his creative horizons. Stern’s artistic language looks within subtle and simple worlds in search for balance between poetry and music. In this intense and saturated world that we live, he creates a refuge of words and sounds that reflect upon the concerns and urgencies of our time.

Nano Stern begun his musical life at the age of 3 while picking up the violin. From then on he has constantly been on a life long exploration of the many paths of sound, picking up many instruments and becoming fluid across many musical languages. He now stands out as one of the most influential chilean musicians and the potency of his performances, albums, instrumental technique, poetic voice and social activism are widely acknowledged. He has performed on countless venues and festivals at an international scale, often collaborating with legendary colleagues, and his work has been recognized with some of the most important awards in chilean music.

“Nano Stern is the best Chilean singer-songwriter of his generation, with his lyrics, melodies, message, humor and heart.” (Joan Baez, USA)

“Nano Stern, chilean troubadour and multi-instrumentalist, is already a reference in contemporary Latin-American music.” (El Carín, Argentina)

"When you see him live, it's very easy to understand the reason for his dazzling career." (Jorge Drexler, Uruguay)

"The appearance of Mr. Stern (...) generated the kind of lightning you might have experienced at a joyful ’60s hootenanny when everything seemed possible and hope was in the air." (The New York Times, EEUU)
