Info for KONNAKOL
KONNAKOL marks the next chapter in ZAYN’s solo career. The album follows 2024’s Room Under the Stairs and arrives after a period of sustained creative activity, including his first-ever Las Vegas residency, where fans were given an early preview of material from the new record.
The album is described as ZAYN’s most culturally inspired project to date, drawing on themes of heritage and identity. The snow leopard featured on the album artwork which is a powerful symbol in South Asia, reflects the influence of his background on the record’s direction.
Zayn has expanded on the album’s title, which is a reference to the art of performing percussion syllables vocally and often found in South Indian Carnatic music.
“It’s that time again, I have been lucky enough to make a fifth studio album,” he said in a press statement. “Konnakol in its definition is the act of creating percussive sounds with one’s voice, but what it means to me lies somewhere much deeper. It is a sound that holds the reverberation of a time before words existed. He added, “I have always drawn on my heritage for inspiration since I first started making my own music — this album is a development of that understanding, knowing more now than ever, who I am, where I come from and where I intend to go.” (ZAYN)
