With ‘Tales Untold’, Wiebke Schröder (piano/composition), Silas Jakob (drums) and Michael Bohn (double bass) present both recently composed pieces and works that have been lying dormant for some time.

Just as a picture puzzle invites us to discover what lies hidden, their nuanced soundscapes – spanning modern jazz, classical and contemporary music – often spring from introspection. Pieces such as ‘Missed Chance’, “Aufbruch” and ‘Illusion’ frequently emerge from the pianist’s sensitive world of thoughts and emotions. They speak of missed opportunities, ambivalence and melancholy – but also of new beginnings, time and chance. With a mood that is at times contemplative, at times euphoric or rhythmically groovy, the sonic tapestry is complemented by compositions by Silas Jakob and Michael Bohn.

The three accomplished musicians view composition, first and foremost, as a free experiment. In doing so, they shy away neither from complex and multi-layered structures nor from melodiousness and accessibility. As in their improvisations, their creative process follows exclusively the expression demanded by the subject at hand or driven by personal feeling.
