Info for Flash-A-Magic

Flash-A-Magic continues Luke Winslow-King's world-wandering evolution, from Michigan to New Orleans to Spain, absorbing and integrating his experiences and collaborations to create something unique and new.

Luke Winslow-King's Flash-A-Matic is the latest chapter in the singer-songwriter's globe-trotting musical journey, weaving together influences from Michigan, New Orleans, and Spain. This album, co-produced with Tuscan slide guitar maestro Roberto Luti, encapsulates the unique blend of experiences and collaborations that make Winslow-King's music so distinctive.

Luti, a founding member of the Playing For Change band, brings his unorthodox, angular slide guitar style to the mix. Known for his work with legends like Taj Mahal, Keb' Mo', Keith Richards, Ringo Starr, and Dr. John, and having garnered over 100 million YouTube plays, Luti's playing is deeply rooted in Mississippi and Chicago blues, enriched with soul and African influences. His evocative style perfectly complements Winslow-King's musical vision.

Winslow-King's songs, meanwhile, blend contemporary ideas with styles from bygone eras, creating a sound that is both rustic and urbane, elegant and entirely his own. It's an eclectic mix of Mississippi delta blues, folk, traditional jazz, and roots rock and roll.

The partnership between Winslow-King and Luti dates back over 15 years to their early days on the streets of New Orleans. Together, they have traveled to dozens of countries, bringing a deep reverence and bittersweet authenticity to their approach to rural and hill country blues. Their new album features several co-written tracks that showcase the unique synergy and style they have developed over the years.

“Seamlessly melds Delta blues, gospel and jazz themes with personal, simplified lyrics that speak to his personal and artistic evolution.” — The New York Times
