Info for Ciaccona Works for harpsichord

Amsterdam-based harpsichordist Guillermo Brachetta makes his solo debut recording with a programme of ciacconas and chaconnes that chart the extraordinary diversity and the development of this musical form.

Beginning with works from such composers as Jacques Champion de Chambonnieres and Louis Couperin, Guillermo takes the listener on a journey through to the substantial offerings by Jacques Duphly and Johann Sebastian Bach.

Accompanied by an essay from musicologist Nigel Simeone, Guillermo performs this selection on two instruments by instrument builder Titus Crijnen - copies of instruments by G.B. Giusti (1681) and H. Ruckers (1624) with grand ravalement (1680).

Guillermo Brachetta, harpsichord

Guillermo Brachetta
I began piano studies at an early age in my native Argentina, but immediately after discovering the voice of baroque turned my devotion to the harpsichord. Having arrived in The Netherlands in 1995, I studied at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague with Jacques Ogg and at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam with Menno van Delft, my true mentor.

I also followed classes with Gustav Leonhardt, Bob van Asperen, Christophe Rousset and Lucy van Dael amongst others.

I performs with Emmy Verhey, Amsterdam Bach Solisten, The New Dutch Academy, the Catherine the Great Baroque Orchestra (Saint Petersburg, Russia), Holland Symfonia, Orkest van het Oosten, Orquesta Sinfonica de Galicia (La Coruna, Spain) and Magogo Kammerorkest.

Together with Menno van Delft I'm founder of the "Collegium Wilhelm Friedemann Bach", devoted to the rediscovery of the work of the unjustly neglected Wilhelm Friedemann Bach.

I'm also very active as a music editor and researcher and works in close cooperation with Cambridge University Press and other international institutions, having edited numerous works from the XVII and XVIII centuries for first time publication. In 2008 I co-founded the baroque ensemble Fantasticus, with which we recorded 5 albums and toured in Europe and Japan.
