Info for Dvorak: Symphony No. 9 from the new world in E Minor Op. 95
It has often been said that the Symphony 'From the New World' is a hymn to America and its wide open spaces. This is doubtless true, but the Ninth Symphony of this Slavonic genius is a dramatic work that seeks new worlds of sound. Written in New York at the end of the Romantic century by a composer at the height of his glory, this musical epic is the orchestral testament of Dvorak, an uprooted figure yearning for his Bohemia.
Recorded at the St Petersburg Philharmonia March 2011, this recording marks the start of a new collaboration between Mirare and the St Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra in St Petersburg itself. The new collection built around Yuri Temirkanov and his orchestra will all be recorded in the same concert hall, the Philharmonie of St Petersburg; the same concert hall where Tchaikovsky conducted the same orchestra. Future recordings will include Rachmaninov Symphony No. 2, Shostakovich Symphonies 1 & 10 and Tchaikovsky.
