Info for Roads
„Roads“is the first album of the Léa Castro 5tet. The project began as she started in 2010 her cooperation with Antoine Delprat (piano, violin). In 2013, the double bass player Alexander Perrot, the drummer Ariel Tessier and Rémi Fox on the saxophone joined the formation. Between new compositions and standards, jazz dyes from soul and pop, reflecting the way of a young generation of jazz musicians grown up with many different musical genres.
The warm, moving alto voice of Léa Castro, full of swing, intensive mildness and quiet strength seduces from the beginning on. Inspired by jazz and soul legends such as Nina Simone, Carmen McRae or Diane Reeves, but also Otis Redding and Bill Withers, some of her compositions get their inspiration in a colourful imaginary world – from Spain up to the Orient, on the way to Léa Castro's North African roots.
The innovative formation of the quintet can be completely adapted, sometimes with a piano, a flute, drums, a cajón or a choir. The album moves from an exalted energy to the gentleness of a chamber music, where sounds subtly mingled, only following the voice and the emotions.
