Info for Healing Power
Teaming up for the third time with producer Gus van Go for Healing Power, Lightfoot is also joined by bassist Elijah Abrams and Blue Rodeo's Glenn Milchem on drums for the record. Its 12 pop-rock tracks are said to represent Lightfoot at "a career high."
Terra Lightfoot has made an album that offers Blues, Indie Rock, and Folk Pop without committing to their traditional and predictable elements. But they are all there, more Rock than Blues, more Indie Pop than Rock, the three offered along with super subtle hints of Psychedelia and New Wave. Healing Power is a fun album, toe tapping, fist pumping, a record that both moves and shakes.
She digs into the 1980’s on the opener “Cross Border Lovers” kicking off the record with a heavy synthesizer pulse, and she continues with the up-beat mode into the uber-catchy and hook heavy “Need You Tonight”. “Long Way Down” has a fun, classic rock riff, “Kept You in My Pocket” has a trippy and psychedelic Blues guitar that kicks off the cut, and “Come Back Around” harkens the modern-rock movement of the 1990’s. Then there’s the plucky and skip-along “Anyone But Me”, a cut that has plenty of bounce, “Find My Man” is a stretched-out ballad, and the closer in “Out of Time” is a perfect album, closing the record on a dramatic note.
The best Pop albums are so because of the songwriters ability to put together something ultra-catchy, and that’s exactly what Terra Lightfoot has done. These are stories and love songs, all laid out over melodies that stick to your gut, a solid pop offering borrowing from pop of the past. (Bryant Liggett)
"The songs on Healing Power prove that sometimes the best answer to life’s problems can be to change one’s attitude. There may be crying behind the laughter. Lightfoot knows people can disappoint, circumstances can change, and negative things happen. She’s not in denial. The best response can be to move on with an eye on the future. It may be true that what goes around comes around, but one enjoys life more on the merry-go-round if one perceives it as a carousel. Lightfoot opts to take her listeners on a ride. The album itself is the brass ring." (Steve Horowitz, popmatters.com)
