Biography Anne-Sophie Mutter & John Williams

Anne-Sophie Mutter
is a musical phenomenon: for 46 years now, this virtuoso has been performing worldwide in all the major music centres, shaping the classical music scene as a soloist, mentor and visionary.

The four-time Grammy® Award winner is just as committed to performing traditional compositions as she is to the future of music: she has premiered 30 works to date – Unsuk Chin, Sebastian Currier, Henri Dutilleux, Sofia Gubaidulina, Witold Lutosławski, Norbert Moret, Krzysztof Penderecki, Sir André Previn, Wolfgang Rihm, Jörg Widmann and John Williams have composed for Anne-Sophie Mutter. In addition, she is dedicated to supporting talented young musicians and numerous charitable projects. Furthermore, in 2021 the Board of Trustees of German Cancer Aid elected her as the new President of the charitable organisation. And from January 2022, she will serve on the Board of Trustees of the Lucerne Festival. In autumn 1997, she founded the “Freundeskreis Anne-Sophie Mutter Stiftung e.V.”, which was joined in 2008 by the Anne-Sophie Mutter Foundation. Through these two charitable institutions, scholarship holders receive support tailored to their individual needs. And since 2011, Anne-Sophie Mutter has regularly shared the limelight with her scholarship holder ensemble, “Mutter’s Virtuosi”.
