Adrien Moignard
Biography Adrien Moignard
Adrien Moignard
is a French Gypsy jazz guitarist.
Adrien Moignard is considered one of the most influential guitarists in contemporary Gypsy swing. Rooted in the great Parisian *Jazz Manouche* tradition, he has consistently evolved the style, expanding it to incorporate modern harmonies, as well as influences from bebop and contemporary jazz. His impressive technical brilliance is paired with profound musical clarity: Moignard’s playing is at once elegant and fiery—highly virtuosic, yet always narrative, transparent, and driven by an inner musical logic.
Joining him are two musicians deeply rooted in the European Gypsy swing scene:
Julia Hornung, founder of the *SWING MANOUCHE* series, shapes the trio’s sound with her melodic, clearly structured bass playing, combining rhythmic precision with great musical openness. Giangiacomo Rosso complements the trio with powerful rhythm guitar work and sensitive soloistic accents that lend both dynamism and depth to the ensemble.
Moignard has long since ceased to be merely a fixture of the European scene. As the longtime musical partner of the internationally acclaimed vocalist Cyrille Aimée, he tours regularly outside of Europe, performing in renowned jazz clubs and at festivals across the USA and Japan. There, he is regarded as one of the foremost ambassadors of a modern Gypsy swing—a style that does not merely preserve tradition, but keeps it alive, carrying it forward across both stylistic and geographic boundaries.
In 2009, he signed a recording contract with Dreyfus Jazz. In addition to releasing albums under his own name, he has recorded with the Hot Club de Norvège, the Danish Radio Big Band, Ben Powell, Cyrille Aimée, and Brady Winterstein; in 2012, he released *Entre Actes* in collaboration with Rocky Gresset. The album *Classico* (2013) was created as a duo with Gonzalo Bergara. He can also be heard on the second edition of the *Selmer #607* project (with Gresset, Sébastien Giniaux, Richard Manetti, Noé Reinhardt, and Stochelo Rosenberg); *Selmer #607 VOL. III: Anniversary Songs* followed, featuring Giniaux, Gresset, Noé Reinhardt, and Antoine Boyer.
