Mike Ledbetter & Monster Mike Welch

Biography Mike Ledbetter & Monster Mike Welch

Monster Mike Welch
Despite his relatively young age, he has been an active figure in the blues music business for over 25 years. He was just 13 when "Blues Brother" Dan Aykroyd bestowed upon him the nickname "Monster Mike" in recognition of his formidable guitar prowess. In his home region of the Northeastern U.S., some of the blues world's true greats—such as Duke Robillard and Ronnie Earl—quickly took notice of him. In 2001, he joined forces with Sugar Ray Norcia & the Bluetones, enriching their sound with his unmistakable guitar style. This creative collaboration continues to this day. Welch can also be heard on albums by Nick Moss, Johnny Winter, Darrell Nulisch, Jimmie Vaughan, the Mannish Boys, and Sugaray Rayford.

Mike Ledbetter
Mike Ledbetter’s voice is pure soul, gospel, and blues. As a classically trained opera singer, he knows how to command his instrument; yet, his true passion has always lain with soul-blues. Music was in his blood from birth, instilled in him by his great-uncle Huddie Ledbetter (a.k.a. Leadbelly) and his mother. Mike Ledbetter spent eight years as a member of his mentor Nick Moss’s band, touring the world with him as both lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist. During this time, he left a lasting impression—and won over legions of fans. He also had the opportunity to work with many of his own heroes, including Anson Funderburgh, Billy Flynn, Curtis Salgado, Jimmy Johnson, Lazy Lester, and Ronnie Earl.
