Friedrich Wilhelm Schnurr
born in Göttingen in 1929, had his first piano lessons at the age of seven. After finishing school, he studied with Hans Richter-Haaser at the North West German Music Academy in Detmold and completed the Academy’s concert examination with distinction (1953). In 1953 he participated on an MA course with Alfred Cortot in Lausanne and in 1963 with Wilhelm Kempff in Positano. In 1959 he was awarded 1st prize at an ARD International Music Competition in Munich.

His concert performances took him far beyond the borders of Germany and Europe, to North and South America, to Asia, the Far East and Africa.

Since 1965 Friedrich Wilhelm Schnurr had been Professor for Piano at the Academy of Music in Detmold and Chancellor of the Academy from 1982 till 1993. In 2012 the Academy awarded him the title of Honorary Senator.
