Lorenz Widauer
born in Salzburg, Austria, is considered "one of the most outstanding talents in the Austrian jazz scene" (Salzburger Nachrichten). His musical journey began with classical piano studies until the age of 17, which led him to renowned concert halls such as the Großes Festspielhaus Salzburg and MuTh Wien. As a piano soloist, he worked with orchestras such as the Salzburg Philharmonic, performing everything from Mozart's piano concertos to Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue. This early exposure to the classical repertoire laid the foundation for his multifaceted musical career.
After deciding to switch to the trumpet as his main instrument, Lorenz initially studied classical trumpet with Andreas Lackner (Innsbruck) and Johann Plank (Vienna), followed by jazz studies with Lars Seniuk and Andy Middleton at the Music and Arts University of the City of Vienna (MUK), and with Ruud Breuls at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam.

At the age of 25, he was already touring throughout Austria and Europe as a soloist and sideman with various ensembles, differing in both style and size, such as Christian Muthspiel's Orjazztra Vienna, the Roman Schwaller Quintet, and Yvonne Moriel's sweetlife:quartet, as well as his own project, Chez Fría, a contemporary transdisciplinary ensemble of jazz musicians and early music performers, founded as a commission for the Potsdam Sanssouci Music Festival.
In his newly founded acoustic quartet*, he weaves together diverse stylistic influences, combining avant-garde sounds with the strong classical tradition of his native Salzburg and the vibrant sounds of the young jazz scene in New York.
