Info for Orfeo son io

With Orfeo son io (“I am Orpheus”), star tenor Rolando Villazón presents an extraordinary album that delves deep into the world of Greek mythology. Together with the renowned ensemble L’Arpeggiata and its founder and artistic director Christina Pluhar, Villazón creates a captivating sonic universe spanning Baroque, Classical, and contemporary music. The album will be released on November 21 by Deutsche Grammophon. It is based on a concept program that the artists have already performed live with great success. Villazón interprets excerpts from Monteverdi’s Orfeo as well as from operas based on the Orpheus myth by Gluck, Peri, and Sartorio – complemented by 20th-century songs by Carlos Gardel and Luis Bonfá. Orfeo son io is a passionate homage to the power of music and the eternal longing for love – inspired by perhaps the most famous figure in music history.
