Info for Godard: Les 3 quatuors à cordes

Benjamin Godard: heres one to rediscover! The Franck set, then the impressionists and then all who came along afterwards have thoroughly pickled him. He was part of a trend that did not stay the course, yet it left us a few gems, including a certain romantic tradition inherited from his teacher Reber, who in turn received it from Mendelssohn and Schumann. Godard (1849-95) wrote three string quartets, full of diverse, original ideas. The Elysée Quartet celebrates its 20th anniversary in 2015. The Elysée Quartet has its place in the higher realms of music. (Info-Musique, France)

Elysée Quartet

Elysée Quartet
was created in 1995 by former members of two string quartets, both of which had won the Grand Prize at the Evian International Competition : the Ysaÿe and Anton Quartets.

The uniqueness of the Elysée Quartet lies in the confrontation and assimilation of two different schools : the French school and the prestigious Russian school.

These two schools are mutually enriching. They enable the blending of different ideas, the development of new dimensions in the interpretation of music, and a strength of expression which has great originality.

The Elysée Quartet has performed in many European countries (England, Germany, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Italy, Portugal) as well as in Israel, Japan, China, Canada, Nicaragua, Russia... In France they have featured in many festivals, such as : the Orangerie de Sceaux Festival, the Périgord Noir Festival, the Fayence String Quartet Festival, the Lubéron String Quartet Festival, the Ile de France Festival, the Abbaye de l'Epau Festival, the Saison Musicale of Proquartet in Fontainebleau, etc.
