Info zu Whispering Jack (Remastered 40th Anniversary Edition)
Originally released in 1986, Whispering Jack remains the highest selling album by an Australian artist in Australian chart history, with more than 1.68 million copies sold locally. The record dominated the charts, spending 25 weeks at No. 1 across 1986/87, becoming the best-performing Australian album of the 1980s and earning him the ARIA Award for Album of the Year in 1987.
The album also broke new ground technologically, becoming the first Australian‑made album released on compact disc in Australia, marking a pivotal moment in the country’s transition into the digital music era.
The album’s lead single, You’re The Voice, reached No. 1 in Australia, became an international hit, and remains one of the most recognised and enduring songs in Australian music history. The track’s message of empowerment continues to resonate globally, cementing Farnham’s place as a cultural icon.
Across his extraordinary career, John Farnham is the only Australian artist to achieve a No. 1 album or single across five consecutive decades. His achievements include 22 ARIA Awards, induction into the ARIA Hall of Fame in 2003, being named Australian of the Year in 1987 and receiving the honour of Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) in 1996.
“I’ve been incredibly lucky to spend my life doing what I love, and even luckier to have Australians embrace my music the way they have,” Farnham said at the time.

John Farnham
is an Australian national treasure, one of Australia's top performing artists and the greatest singer Australia has ever produced. Born in London, John immigrated to Australia with his family in 1959. From high school, he played in local bands around Melbourne and in 1967, John left a plumbing apprenticeship to pursue a full-time career in entertainment. And what a career it has been.
For five years, from 1969 to 1973, John was voted the King of Pop and his success brought him screaming fans and recording contracts, won him starring roles in stage shows and musicals, and delivered twelve singles and six albums that all achieved gold status. The fickle nature of pop saw his pop career wane in the late seventies, but John's talent continued to develop. In 1982, he was invited to front the Little River Band (LRB) and he toured extensively with the band in the US. But it was after leaving LRB that John truly came into his own. In 1986, he released his solo album, Whispering Jack. This phenomenal album is still Australia's highest-selling album of all time by a local artist.
