Info zu Omega (Remastered 20th Anniversary Edition)
20th Anniversary Edition of “Omega”, one of the most influential albums in Spanish music of recent decades. “Omega” is the result of Enrique Morente’s genius and his devotion to the works of Federico García Lorca and Leonard Cohen. Together with Lagartija Nick and a line-up of the finest flamenco guitarists of his generation, Enrique Morente created a monumental album that has continued to prove its worth and is now being re-released in a remastered and expanded edition.
The album also features numerous flamenco artists—such as Vicente Amigo, Tomatito, Estrella Morente, Isidro Muñoz, and Cañizares—who joined in adapting poems from Federico García Lorca’s "Poet in New York" ("Poeta en Nueva York") as well as songs by the Canadian singer-songwriter Leonard Cohen. This record became a landmark in the evolution of flamenco, opening up paths that had previously been unexplored.
The impact of this work was such that, from time to time, Enrique Morente and the band from Granada would reunite to perform *Omega* live. One such instance took place at the 2008 Primavera Sound festival in Barcelona, as part of a tour that same year—a tour that even brought them to Mexico to present their work.

Enrique Morente
was born in the Albaicín on Christmas Day 1942, the second son of Encarnación Cotelo and Juan Morente. As a boy he was a seise at Granada cathedral, and at eighteen he left for Madrid, where he worked as a bricklayer, shoemaker, barber and seller while singing in the flamenco peñas. He died in Madrid on 13 December 2010.
His recordings set lyrics by poets including Federico García Lorca and Miguel Hernández, and he recorded Omega with the rock group Lagartija Nick. In 2005 he presented Morente sueña la Alhambra, a dark, poetic vision of the monument.
His first recording appeared in 1967: on Cante flamenco he was accompanied by the guitarist Félix de Utrera. His second recording followed soon after; on Cantes antiguos del flamenco he was accompanied by the guitarist Niño Ricardo. With these two recordings he made a strong start in the world of flamenco, and he demonstrated his excellent knowledge of traditional cante flamenco. It was however, after this period that his restlessness increasingly began to be apparent. In his own words: ‘Yo soy una persona que me aburre cantar siempre igual y pienso que la ortodoxia hay que cogerla e inspirarse y desarrollarla para hacer cosas que inviten a hacer nuevo arte.’
