With their new album *Happy Birthday!*, Sportfreunde Stiller are treating themselves and their fans to a gift in honor of the band's 30th anniversary. The album features a total of 10 new songs.

"Immer noch hier" (Still Here)—that is what Sportfreunde Stiller sing right at the start of *Happy Birthday!*, their album marking the band's 30th anniversary. It is a pragmatic, almost logical, and—consequently—highly successful opening. Not that they needed to explicitly point it out; after all, the songs by Peter, Rüde, and Flo have always been present in some way for many of us—just take a look at your playlists, CD collections, and record shelves. Yet, in 2026, they sound as fresh and vital as they did in the glory days of physical media, while simultaneously sounding seasoned, savvy, and—despite the nostalgia—contemporary. It is rock music the way it should be, complete with uptempo drumming that has a punk-like feel and, at times, gritty electric guitars that are perfectly balanced.

Add to this their unerring knack for unforgettable pop melodies and a certain fondness for expansive synths that occasionally evoke the 1980s. Lyrically, too, *Happy Birthday!* strikes the right chord for these turbulent times: embracing life, occasionally contemplative, but fundamentally bringing people together. Sportfreunde Stiller are indeed still here—and that is not just a good thing; it might well be better than ever!

The band was originally founded under the name "Endkrass" and performed as "Stiller" in 1996 before renaming themselves Sportfreunde Stiller for legal reasons. The band's founders, Peter Brugger and Florian Weber, have always had a close connection to football, a theme reflected in their lyrics. Rüdiger Linhof joined the group in 1997, completing the trio.

Their debut album, "So wie einst Real Madrid," was released in 2000 and immediately resonated with a wide audience. The band achieved their breakthrough in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland in 2002 with the album "Die gute Seite." The song "'54, '74, '90, 2006" became a national hit and reached number one on the German singles charts, enjoying particular popularity during the 2006 FIFA World Cup. The band released several successful albums, including "La Bum" and "New York, Rio, Rosenheim," which also achieved high chart positions.

Sportfreunde Stiller are known for their energetic live performances. A highlight was their MTV Unplugged concert, recorded in 2009. Alongside their work with the band, the members pursue various other projects: Florian Weber has published novels and is part of the noise-rock duo Taskete!, while Peter Brugger works on electropop projects.

After a long hiatus from music, Sportfreunde Stiller announced work on a new album in late 2020. They made a successful comeback with the 2022 release of "Jeder nur ein X," demonstrating that they had lost none of their popularity despite the break. With an active fan base and regular performances, the band remains a fixture of the German music scene.
