This album is an opportunity to pay tribute to folk music, to the traditional dances and songs that inspire a large part of the violin repertory. Between the end of the Nineteenth Century and the first half of the Twentieth, a number of composers succeeded in transmitting through their music powerful, emotionally charged impressions, resulting from their travels and their encounters with certain musical traditions, traditional melodies, rhythms and specific harmonies.

The violin is the folk instrument par excellence, the instrument of travel and roaming. It is at once universal, popular and nomadic and does not hesitate here to perform the way an actor would, expressing different human emotions in turn.

Thomas Lefort
beginnt im Alter von vier Jahren mit dem Violinunterricht und debütiert sehr früh als Solist. Mit zwölf Jahren gewinnt er seinen ersten internationalen Wettbewerb in Italien und tritt zum ersten Mal mit einem Orchester auf. Er gewinnt Preise bei mehreren Wettbewerben, so beim Concours International Ginette Neveu, beim Internationalen Violinwettbewerb Rodolfo Lipizer, den 1. Preis beim Wettbewerb Jeune Talent d’Île-de-France und den Publikumspreis beim Festival Musical d’Automne des Jeunes Interprètes. Als er dreizehn ist, wird der grosse Violinist Ivry Gitlis auf ihn aufmerksam. Aus dieser Begegnung entsteht eine grosse Verbundenheit. Thomas Lefort studiert am Pariser Konservatorium bei Roland Daugareil und erlangt das Diplom mit einem 1. Preis für Violine. Ein Jahr lang studiert er an der namhaften Accademia Musicale Chigiana in Siena, Italien. Anschliessend bildet er sich bei Renaud Capuçon als Solist weiter. Martha Argerich lädt ihn mehrmals an ihr Lugano Festival ein. 2014 gewinnt er den 1. Grand Prix beim Wettbewerb Un Violon sur le sable und spielt vor mehreren tausend Zuschauern.

Beim Concours International Long-Thibaud-Crespin 2018 ist Thomas Lefort Halbfinalist. Ein Jahr später nimmt er am Konzert zu Ehren von Ivry Gitlis in der Pariser Philharmonie teil und spielt im Juli bei den Folles Journées von Jekaterinburg mit dem Ural Philharmonic Orchestra unter der Leitung von Dmitri Liss. 2019 nimmt er zusammen mit Pierre-Yves Hodique sein erstes Album auf, „Folk“ (Mirare).
